When a meteor released a bacterium that caused the dead to rise, the world Ian and Lance knew was turned upside down. Forced to flee from the sulfurous Stinkers, the teenagers narrowly avoided their own demise on the way to an isolated cabin. With their parents lost to contact, the boys must lead their battered group in survival.

As the stench of death draws closer, Lance and Ian will face their most difficult challenge yet a murderous gang of powerful thugs. With new threats looming, the boys must use every trick up their sleeves. But with little life experience, and no adult to turn to, will our heroes successfully endure the heavy mantle of leadership, or will they become the next victims in this forsaken world?

Forsaken WorldComing of Age eBook Thomas A Watson Christian Bentulan Amanda Shore

Another great read by Watson. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with Jennifer. A Jennifer who doesn't think Lance or Ian take her seriously enough. A Jennifer who wants to do more to help them. She wants to take part in patrols and do something besides stay at the camp and do what they consider "womans" work.

Jennifer is the oldest at sixteen and Allie and Carrie are the youngest. Its hard to imagine that Ian and Lance, best friends, are only thirteen years old. These two have been outside the wire, sweeping the area and killing stinkers who come to close. The two boys are very, very capable with weapons and tactics.

Jennifer, Ian, Lance, Allie, Carrie and Dino the Mastiff who belonged to Uncle Doug the retired US Navy SEAL who was bitten. A Doug who held the stinkers off so the others could make to the camp property. A Doug who blew his own brains out so he wouldn't become a stinker was the last adult who was supposed to make it to the property with the kids in tow.

The parents were on a cruise in Hawaii and are making their way home as fast as they can. Until they get there, if they do, the kids are on their own. And what very capable kids they are.

Ian and Lance are busy making the area safe. They can't understand what Jennifer is pissed about until she actually tells them. They decide Jennifer, Allie and Carrie need training. Training which enables them to act as security and eventually training which will allow Jennifer to accompany them when they head out for supplies and a look see in the area. Gun and gun safety training.

Of course Ian and Lance, being thirteen, have a very hard time understanding what makes a female tick. Ian has a loads of feeling for Jennifer and Lance just sees her as a friend and teammate.

On patrol they always take Dino, A Dino who is worth his weight in gold as an early warning system for trouble whether its stinkers or a gang. Dino is attack trained and has no problem taking down stinkers or humans who threaten the boys.

Ian and Lance on patrol spot a gang. A gang that's led by one smart man. A gang that has safe houses loaded with supplies, guns and ammo all over the area around the camp. So far no one has discovered the camp or the road leading to it. The boys, when they leave, always take to the ridges and woods on their UAV;s. Very silent UAV's. They kill any stinkers they find and light them on fire. They burn so hot that all that is left is a white powder. Scent draws the stinkers. Remove the scent and none show up.

Ian and Lance hit this gang in many ways. Deeds they call them. Deeds that leave many of the gang dead. Deeds that leave no clue as to who or what attacked them. The gang boss knows someone is out there but he has no clue who, what or where.

So begins another fine read by Watson. LMAO through a lot of it.

This one has Ian, Lance, Jennifer, Allie, Carrie, a woman named Lily and her two German Shepherds Judy and George, who Ian and Lance rescue and take back with them, a Lilly who is a vet, a Lilly who is familiar with guns and surviving on her own, a Lily who has a hard time believing her rescuers are two thirteen year old boys, a Lily who is determined to stay and make her self useful, a Jennifer who heads out with Ian and Lance and gets a taste of survival outside the wire, a Jennifer who is more than equal to the task, an Ian and Lance who gather chickens, pigs and goats to bring to the camp, animals that will provide eggs, milk and meat, tigers who Ian and Lance find when they trip the sensors and scare the ever lovin s**t out of the kids when they see them on the monitors in the bunker, Tigers who appear to be animals that were pets of someone in the area, Tigers that obey Ian, Tigers who Lance and Ian think will be useful as guards in their area, a pack of wild dogs numbering one hundred, who take down some of the gang members, feral dogs are all over and deadly as they have no fear of humans at all because most of them were family pets at one time, pets that are now surviving on their own, the parents off shore and getting ready to head for home and Ian, Lance and their teammates doing their best to stay under the radar, gather what they need and stay alive.

One super read. Five Stars.

Forsaken WorldComing of Age eBook Thomas A Watson Christian Bentulan Amanda Shore Reviews

For much of the book, not much really happens. The apocalypse is kind of beside the point in lieu of the constant chatter of these kids. Jennifer is obsessed with not being a full partner of the group and the boys think of little else than boobs. I really wanted to put these guys in timeout. Some of the best parts were the diabolical "pranks" they pulled on the gang. Unfortunately, this book ended with the parents on their journey so now I may want to see what happens.
I was so excited to read the next installment of Ian and Lance, two 13 year old teenagers. Mr Watson does well at describing teen age boys and their thought process...some of it is LOL, roll in the floor funny! I always enjoy reading ANYTHING this author write. This is a great series with a different take on Zombie Apocalypse. In anticipation of the second book, I reread the first, "Innocence Lost" so I could smoothly go right into this new book. As soon as I finished I screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOO, I have to wait another year?!?!" So I will do what the rest of Tommy's followers do & reread the other series for the second & third time. Do yourself a favor & buy his books. You won't be disappointed. Tommy, work faster!!!!!
I was so excited that this book came out today, that I had to pick it up and read it ASAP! Lance and Ian are hysterical teenage boys, forced to grow up too soon. Threatened by a motorcycle gang, the boys turn the shenanigans they are known for into weapons.

Well written, humorous, and engaging, this book is sure to please the zombie fan looking fora more lighthearted tale, as well as fans of Watson in general.
Okay, so now I am addicted to The Blue Plague series, The Forbidden, Forgotten America series, The Innocence Lost series, and NOW the Forsaken World Series! This has only happened with two other authors in my 50+ years of reading - Louis L'Amour and W.E.B Griffin. I stand in awe of Mr. Watson's talent. It is difficult to capture such great characterization as well as a plot that keeps pushing the envelope of expectations. Somehow he manages it effortlessly.

This book is filled with the humanity, humor, and suspense that caused me to read the Blue Plague series ten times now (by the way we really need Book 7). You will start to care about Ian, Lance, Jennifer, the ladybugs, Lily and even Dino, getting consumed in the challenges they face surviving on there own in an extremely hostile world.

Spoiler - there are a lot of similarities to the Blue Plaque in this book.

Read it one day when you're feeling a bit down. It will make you chuckle, escape, and end up feeling a lot better about life in general by the end of the book.

This is not a "young adult" type book, though it could be. I strongly recommend it for anyone, even those that don't like "zombie" books.
Survival 301
Another laugh out loud, thoroughly enjoyable, exciting view of life and survival thru the eyes of Ian, Lance and Jennifer. It's easy to forget these are teens whose parents and uncle had the foresight to leave detailed instructions, training/survival guides, and the equipment needed to bunker down. Granted these instructions were for the adults, not realizing there would be "stinkers" trying to eat you, but these kids are smart, real smart. And then there are "deeds", lots of deadly deeds to make their life safer-"Death by jet-powered diarrhea!" Read it, laugh, and enjoy the journey.
